FROM YPS TO YISABILITY

Fifteen years of relationships, service, lessons, sacrifice and a new chapter built to reach more people.

"YPS is not something we left behind. It is the foundation YisAbility stands on."

OUR STORY

From YPS to YisAbility

YisAbility began long before our current name. In 2009, after working as a Job Coach and Job Placement provider in Central Texas, Yalda Garrett was encouraged by TWC counselors to pursue a contract of her own. She took the chance and founded Yalda Placement Services (YPS). What began as a sole proprietorship grew into nearly fifteen years of employment services built through direct work with consumers, counselors, families, and employers across Texas, including the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

As the mission grew, so did our vision. We wanted to serve more consumers, build a team around the work, strengthen our systems, and create an organization capable of carrying the values of YPS into the future. In 2026, YPS evolved into YisAbility.

YPS will always be part of our story. It is where our values were tested, our relationships were built, and our mission took shape. YisAbility is not a departure from that history. It is the next chapter — built to help more consumers, support more counselors, partner with more employers and families, and continue changing stereotypes of disability in the workforce one placement at a time.

FOUNDER

Yalda's Story

Yalda's path into employment services was not something she originally planned.
After losing her job, an unexpected opportunity opened the door for her to begin working in employment services in the Round Rock and Austin area. She started as a Job Coach and later worked in Job Placement, supporting people with disabilities as they developed skills, entered the workforce, earned income, and moved toward greater independence.

Over the next several years, Yalda built relationships with consumers, employers, and Texas Workforce Commission counselors. When that chapter of her work came to an end around 2009, several counselors who had worked with her encouraged her to pursue a contract of her own.

At first, building her own provider organization felt larger than what she had imagined for herself. But the encouragement continued. With support from Thomas, counselors, and TWC representatives, Yalda took the opportunity seriously and pursued the contract.

In 2009, she founded Yalda Placement Services - YPS.

What began as a small, deeply personal operation grew through direct service, persistence, responsiveness, and relationships. Yalda built the company one consumer, one counselor, and one employer relationship at a time.

Nearly fifteen years later, that foundation became the starting point for YisAbility.

OUR FOUNDATION

YPS Will Always Be Part of YisAbility

YPS represents where this journey began.

It represents Yalda taking a chance when counselors encouraged her to believe she could build something of her own. It represents years of service, relationships, lessons, family transitions, difficult seasons, persistence, and consumers whose lives became part of our story.

So we do not think of YPS as something that disappeared.

YPS became YisAbility.

The mission, relationships, service philosophy, and lessons built through YPS remain part of everything we are creating today. YisAbility is the next chapter, but its foundation was built over nearly fifteen years through Yalda Placement Services.

WHY THE NAME

Yes, you have the ability

The core philosophy of our organization is hidden right inside our name. Traditional frameworks often focus on limitations, emphasizing what a person struggle with. We choose a different starting point.

By removing the "D" from Disability and introducing the affirmative "Y" (for "Yes"), we created YisAbility. It serves as a daily, active reminder to counselors, employers, families, and most importantly, the individuals themselves: Yes, you have the ability. We aim to highlight capacity first.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Three stages of progress toward the star

Ability, Independence, and Success are not separate concepts-they represent a sequential journey. Each stage builds directly upon the last to create a stable, self-directed future.

Your Ability

We start with a thorough understanding of what you can do, what you care about, and the vision that drives you forward.

Independence

Work builds confidence, better decision-making, social connection, and the daily autonomy required to thrive.

Success

Achieving individual goals, whether that means securing a first job, learning a key skill, or growing a long-term career.

THE TEAM

The people behind the work

Our leadership team brings decades of combined experience in vocational rehabilitation, clinical support, and community advocacy across North Texas.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

Serving more people, personally

YisAbility represents the future we are building from the foundation YPS created — a company designed to serve more people without losing the personal responsibility that made the work meaningful.

We want consumers to receive organized, responsive, individualized employment support. We want counselors to know communication will be clear and dependable. We want employers to see ability and opportunity. We want families to feel supported with purpose. And we want our team to have the systems, training, and standards needed to do meaningful work well.
